CONSIDERING THE RR TVS1900?

A lot of you may becoming more aware of the Eaton range of TVS superchargers that have superseded the older M chargers such as the M90, M112 and M122. These TVS chargers are way more efficient and quickly becoming the go-to for modern supercharger setups.

The TVS rotor packs are now commonly found in a lot of manufacturers supercharger offerings such as Harrop, Edlebrock, VMP, Magnuason and Roush along with a large amount of OEM applications from Manufacturers such as Ford, Jaguar, Range Rover , Chevrolet , etc  These come in a range of sizes with the most common ones in the UZ / UR realm being the 1900, 2300 and 2650.

I have been receiving a huge amount of questions about what’s involved in fitting of an ex-OEM TVS1900 onto the UZ engines so have decided to do the below list as a point of reference:

How complicated is this process?

Fitting an ex-OEM TVS1900 is a bigger undertaking to that of any other OEM charger. If you do not have the mechanical knowledge or ability to undertake any of the steps shown in the links below then this is not for you.

Some fabrication is going to be needed.

What ex-OEM TVS1900 should I use?

The recommendation is to use the TVS1900 off the 5.0 Range Rover, this one should have a vacuum actuated bypass and NOT the one with the electric actuator often found on the XF Jaguar.

Do I need to modify the charger housing to get it to fit?

No, the housing does not need to be modified to get it to fit onto our manifolds with the TVS1900 top plate however, for aesthetic reasons (and height clearance reasons) we normally cut and grind off the 2 protruding mounts on the top of the housing.  This can be seen in the picture above / below..

What do I need to be aware of regarding the bypass actuator?

Assuming you have purchased the correct unit with the vacuum bypass then the actuator will need to be modified by welding on a turnbuckle onto the actuator arm, the actuator will also need to be mounted remotely onto the top plate, 2 x tapped m8 holes have been added for this. There’s a picture of this setup below..

If you have purchased the TVS1900 from the XF Jag with the electric actuator then you will have quite the obstacle to overcome and there’s NO way this actuator can be used in its original form.

Can I use the pulley that came with my supercharger?

In theory yes you can however I can almost guarantee its going to put out way more boost than you want. Obviously the boost seen on a 1UZ is going to be higher than what it will produce on the 2UZ and only a bit higher than what it will produce on the 3UZ.

We have quick change hubs and larger pulleys to combat this.

What's the go with throttle body fitment?

Ok so this is where most struggle:

  • 1UZ non-VVTI – The stock throttle body will only fit as a remote setup off the charger, for this reason the setup does not suit alot of  chassis. The thermostat housing also gets in the way so some modification may be needed there.
  • 1UZ VVTI – As with the non-VVTI the monstrous stock throttle body will only fit as a remote setup off the charger, for this reason the setup does not suit a lot of  chassis. The thermostat housing also gets in the way so some modification may be needed there.
  • 2UZ non-VVTI – If you have a very early 2UZ it will have the same TB as the 1UZ-VVTI and so the same issues apply as mentioned above, slightly later models share a TB with the later model 3UZ so its possible to drill and tap mounting holes to suit these directly to that charger
  • 2UZ VVTI – These typically have the newer style DBW TB and so fit nicer directly onto the charger. Mounting holes will need to be drilled and tapped OR if I get enough interest I’ll look at doing an adapter.
  • 3UZ – The early TB’s found on the SC430 and some Celsiors will have clearance issues so will need to be remote mounted. For a bulk of 3UZ’s though these can fit by tapping mounting holes directly to the charger.
